About me

Igor Pavlovski is a dedicated microbiologist based in Skopje, North Macedonia, with extensive experience in microbiological control across various sectors, including food, water, and pharmaceuticals. Currently serving as a microbiologist at the Lab for Microbiological Control of Water and Food at Bio Engineering since June 2022, Igor has played a pivotal role in establishing ISO 17025 accreditation for the laboratory, ensuring compliance with international standards for testing and calibration services. His expertise encompasses a broad range of microbiological disciplines, particularly the study of probiotics. Igor is proficient in isolating, culturing, and characterizing probiotic microorganisms, employing various in vitro assays to evaluate their potential. His work involves assessing physiological parameters such as temperature optimization for microbial growth and tolerance to low pH environments, bile salts, and sodium chloride. Additionally, he conducts biochemical tests to determine catalase and oxidase activity, fermentation capabilities, and health safety assessments related to hemolytic activity and antibiotic resistance. Before his current role, Igor served as a Senior Research Specialist and Flow Cytometry Core Lead at Sidra Medicine in Qatar from March 2014 to April 2022. In this position, he successfully established several core facilities focused on advanced cellular analysis, genomic research, and proteomics. His leadership contributed to achieving multiple accreditations, including Joint Commission International (JCI) and ISO certifications. Igor's commitment to quality assurance and regulatory compliance has been instrumental in enhancing laboratory operations and fostering a culture of excellence. Igor's academic journey began with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology with a focus on Biochemistry and Physiology from the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics at SS. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje. He furthered his education with a Master’s degree in Microbiology from the same institution and is currently pursuing a PhD in Molecular Biology. His research interests lie at the intersection of microbiology and molecular biology, with a particular focus on the health benefits of probiotics and their role in gut microbiome health. Fluent in English and Macedonian, with proficiency in several Balkan languages as well as beginner-level Arabic and intermediate Spanish, Igor possesses strong communication skills that facilitate collaboration across diverse teams. His technical skills extend to laboratory management systems (LIMS), advanced flow cytometry techniques, molecular biology methods including PCR and sequencing, and various software applications for data analysis. With a commitment to advancing scientific knowledge through research and innovation, Igor Pavlovski continues to contribute significantly to the fields of microbiology and biotechnology. His work not only enhances our understanding of probiotics but also supports public health initiatives aimed at improving food safety and quality. As he progresses through his academic career, Igor remains dedicated to exploring new frontiers in microbiome research that can lead to improved health outcomes for individuals worldwide.
